Social Anxiety Disorder DSM-5 definition:

Marked fear or anxiety about one or more social situations where the individual is exposed to possible scrutiny by others.

Persistent fear of acting in a way that will be negatively evaluated, leading to embarrassment or humiliation.

Social situations almost always provoke anxiety.

The fear or avoidance significantly impairs social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. ​
Other Notable Features
People with SAD may:

Have physical symptoms, like sweating, blushing, trembling, or rapid heart rate.

​Experience behavior changes, like speaking in a soft voice, or avoiding eye contact.

May use safety behaviors to cope in social situations, like always using headphones in public.

​Analyze own behavior after social situations for flaws in their interactions.
